a dear friend and i had a long conversation about flickr and what it means to us.

i went through a phase where i uploaded pictures i thought people would want to see. and yes, even thought about how many comments i would get. and more often than not, those images received no feedback.

so i took a step back, asked myself why i love photography, and forgot about everyone else.

i started taking, editing and uploading pictures *I* love. pictures that make me smile. or make me remember a moment.

i really try to show what i see in emma when i take/edit/upload pictures of her.

my view of her is this ... soulful.

she can talk an ear off of a stalk of corn, and she can be difficult and stubborn.

but she can also be so thoughtful and in tune with things that i don't think most 2-year olds are in tune with.

so this is to my girl. my life. without her, i wouldn't even want to take pictures.

i am a really bad procrastinator. case in point, i have a page-long to-do list, yet here i am editing/uploading pictures.

and e is totally following in my footsteps. she'll even try to get me to let her clean up her toys so she doesn't have to go to "quiet time" (aka, naptime, but that's our little secret, m'kay?)

depending on her mood and my mood, i'll allow her to procrastinate, but i'm a little worried about the effects. am i creating a procrastinator?

or are all people automatically born procrastinators?

we had driven over to cowpens national battlefield, and she wouldn't move unless we let her lead the way. luckily, it was just a mile loop around - but it was the longest mile of our lives.

i can't get too upset with her, because she is ALL me.

might i just say, that since i dropped out of project365, i've taken pictures every day! go figure.

now that i'm not stressing about what to shoot, things just come to me. and i'm also trying new things.

i've been experimenting with manual focus lately, and i'm really loving it! my eyes are really bad, so it's hard for me. even w/ contacts or glasses, i still have a hard time.

but i'm working on it!

i do like the fact that i can focus on the exact spot i want instead of changing my focal point 472 times with each angle.

i know i still have a long way to go ... baby steps.

so while i failed at taking a photo every day, i'll still post one photo each day. it may not have been taken *that day* - but it's a lot less stressful that way.

i'm going to use the flickr "blog this" option since i do post to flickr at least once every day.

and that's that. if i end up doing a different project (perhaps a 52-week'er?) then i'll add those in w/ the daily photo posts.

sadly, i failed at project 365 :: i just needed to take a few days off here and there. i let a few of them slip by,
but it's probably been over a week total, so i didn't feel that it was right to keep participating in project 365.

i'm not sure if i'll keep this blog up for normal pictures or what.

i may do a weekly project instead of a daily project - that might work better with my personality.

you can keep following this blog if you want to see what may or may not happen.
but no hard feelings if you decide not to.

april 25: we had a community-wide yard sale today, and i remembered why we've never taken part in the yard sales before ...

it was fun, but people kept asking to buy things that were clearly NOT for sale -- like the portable DVD player my kid was watching!?!? lol

april 20: we take e for a walk almost every evening around the neighborhood - and almost every night, our walk ends just as the sun is going down. on the nights when my husband teaches at a local university, it's just me & her.

those walks are some of my favorites, because we talk about everything.

she points out the different animal statues in people's yards. she asks about the birds. she listens for and looks for planes. she laughs at the kids playing in their yards and in the street. she hears dogs barking and tells me to go find them. on lucky nights, we run into some of her friends, and she can run around and play while i visit with his or her mom.

and we just have a good half an hour where it's just us. no tv, no internet, no phone, no laundry, no cooking.

just us. talking, laughing, enjoying.

i saw this beautiful purple field on saturday while running over to a friend's house to pick up some new garden plants -- so we went back yesterday afternoon to get some pictures. the sky was cloudy and grey, so i didn't end up with the beautiful purple/blue that i wanted, but since these are weeds, you never know how long they'll last. we have another cloudy day today, but as soon as we get a spot of sun, i'll probably go back over and try to get a couple more shots with a blue sky.

mar 30: one of our neighbors brightens up our daily walk with her front yard -- she uses so many different colors, and every inch is something beautiful. these tulips were no exception.

I'm sorry I got so behind, guys. Our home business kind of exploded there for a bit, and while that's good for our bank account, it's not so good for personal time.

I think there are a few days here that I missed a picture, as well. That really stinks, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I guess I'm not REALLY a full project 365'er, since I didn't make it, but I'm going to keep doing it.

I've really enjoyed the challenge, and it wasn't a matter of not having pictures to take - it was the matter of not finding 2 seconds to take a picture before I practically passed out at the end of the day.

Also, when I'm stressed out, I tend to be one-track-minded, and I end up forgetting about other things that I'm supposed to be doing.

march 7: we took e to the zoo this morning, and this guy was just sitting there while i clicked away. almost like he knew what to do ... okay, i'll just sit still and let this lady get her photos and THEN i'll go eat a big hunk of leaves.

don't you just want to give him a high five?

yes, she went outside in her pj's this morning. so?

okay, so there are a lot of people out there who think flare=fail. but i have grown to love flare, and i really love this picture because this is SO e.

mar 5: i took some warm water out to our garden today and finally gave it some relief from the snow it's been under for 4 days. i was pleasantly surprised to find that everything survived the snow, and in fact, thrived!

mar 4: i decided that i don't need to go out and get pictures of flowers or raindrops to make my project365 viewer-worthy.

i am a mama first, and this is what i do.

i clean, i cook, i change diapers. it's not always pretty, it's never glamorous, but it's colorful and it's my life. from now on, project365 will reflect that. of course, i love taking walks and photographing nature, but i started feeling pressured to meet some crazy expectation i put on myself, and i was starting to not enjoy p365.

i can't always get out and take pictures -- sometimes, i clean and cook chicken. so i'm not going to hold myself to some photographic standard for the rest of the project. my ultimate goal is to give you all a peek into my daily life, and i'm going to do my best to do that.

believe it or not, i don't always get to take long, lingering walks in the rain. *gasp*

today, i boiled a whole fryer chicken to use for tonight's supper - chicken spaghetti w/ loads of cheese. i also save the chicken stock and freeze the rest of the chicken for future meals.

i mean, if that's not glamorous, i don't know what is. ;)

btw, NO correlation between the title & how i feel.
